Position Overview

The United Nations Foundation links the UN’s work with others around the world, mobilizing the energy and expertise of business and non-governmental organizations to help the UN tackle issues including climate change, global health, peace and security, women's empowerment, poverty eradication, energy access, and U.S.-UN relations.

The United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA), a program of the UN Foundation, is a movement of Americans dedicated to supporting the United Nations. With over 20,000 members (60% under the age of 26) and more than 200 chapters across the country, UNA-USA members are united in their commitment to global engagement and their belief that each of us can play a part in advancing the UN’s mission and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

The intern will report to the Senior Director, Partnerships & Special Initiatives.

Internship Expectations

Support key functions of UNA-USA with design and implementation of key events (i.e. Seton Hall Summer Intensive Program, Global Engagement Summit, Partnerships & Collaborations Learning Series, Refugee and Humanitarian Relief Affinity Group, etc.)
Participate in meetings with UNA members and prospective partners.
Conduct research and assist with preparation of thematic documents, proposals and preparation of collateral for projects and events.
Collaborate on innovative strategies to engage all sectors in activities that support and amplify the work of the United Nations.
Assist with preparation, execution, and follow-up of UNA-USA events and meetings including assisting with logistics, invitations and reports.
Provide logistical support to the team as needed.

Selection Criteria

Candidate must be enrolled in a degree-granting program during the internship or must be a recent graduate (within 8 months of graduation) of a college or university with a demonstrated interest in the UN and international development.
Fast learner with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
Experience with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Interest in the United Nations, International Affairs, and/or the non-profit sector highly preferred.
Candidate is ideally expected to work full-time, though we are able to accommodate students’ schedules as needed.
Must have a personal laptop computer and access to the Internet.

Priority will be given to prospects with strong writing backgrounds, communications, research and skills in graphic design.

Benefits and Compensation

The United Nations Foundation offers unpaid full and part-time internships. We are happy to host interns who are able to receive academic credit or a stipend through their college or university. However, please note that it is not a requirement in order to intern with us.
